Better days: Gerthie David, Miss Haiti and Miss Universe

Pageant organizations around the world have been inviting people to help those affected by one of the biggest catastrophic events of all times - the recent earthquake which killed over 200 K people in Haiti.

Miss Universe, for instance, has put a link to the American Red Cross, where people can find out how to donate money, water, food, cloth and medicine to the people of Haiti.

Solange compete in Miss Universe 1994, in the Philippines.

Miss Argentina Universe 1994 died last Sunday after complications arising from plastic surgery.

Solange Magnano, 37, died in a hospital after being transferred from a clinic where she had an elective surgery on her buttocks on Wednesday, the agency reported.

The former beauty queen ran her own modeling agency in Argentina, and also worked as a model. She  was the mother of 7-year-old twins.

Last week I was invited to judge and cover the 2010 Miss World São Paulo contest, in the city of Nova Odessa. Some heavy rain caused change of plans, since the pageant was going to take place at open air, but in the end, the 25 contestants paraded for the judges in swimsuits and gowns, and 5 finalists were chosen: Americana, São José dos Campos, Sumaré, Santos and Itatiba.

The successor of Andréia Rodrigues, Miss World Portugal 2008, will be crowned on October 14, in Lisbon. Fifteen finalists have been chosen among hundreds of hopfuls. The winner will compete in Miss World 2009, in South Africa, on December 12.
