Katie Farr, a 23-year-old graduate from Leeds University in the U.K., won the 23rd World Miss University contest held at the Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul last Sunday.
Katarzyna Kuziemska from Poland, a 21-year-old public health student at Zarządzania University, was the runner-up. Choi Jung-hwa, a 25-year-old international relations graduate student at Yonsei University, was the second runner-up.
BRAINY BEAUTY WHO’S NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE
HERE’S one beauty queen who could never be described as a dumb blonde.
She said: “Before that I thought beauty contests were all about daft proclamations about ‘world peace’ and all the rest of it.
“But I realised it would be a fantastic opportunity in terms of my charity work.
“I did some aid work in South Africa before going to university and it was then that I decided it was what I wanted to do.
“Miss England was a great platform on which to promote all the things that I believed in.
“I learnt that you have to be more than just a pretty face.”
The Miss World University contest, designed to promote world peace, was held earlier this month in the South Korean capital Seoul.
Katie, who is originally from Ely, Cambs, added: “I think it’s fair to say the winner is the brainiest beauty contestant. There’s definitely truth in that.”

What with Katie winning World Miss University, and a beautiful Englishwoman winning Miss Angola, hopefully England’s pageant fortunes are looking up at last!
