It has been confirmed that Portugal returns to Miss Universe after 9 years without competing (the last Miss Portugal Universe was Iva Catarina Lamarão, in 2002). Portugal first appeared in Miss Universe in 1960, but in 5 decades it has never had a single semi-finalist in the pageant.
With Miss Universe being held in Brazil, MUO felt the urge to have a Portuguese representative (Brazil was a Portuguese colony from 1500 to 1822).
Information about the 2011 Miss Portugal Universe pageant and its new organizers will be announced soon.

I still can’t fathom why a country that produced the likes of Adriana Iria, Telma Santos, and Iva Lamarao has never made the semifinals. I’m hoping their comeback also comes with a long-awaited breakthrough.

Miss Universe still lacks the amount of contestants that Miss World has and it’s harder to win Miss World now.
