Miss Universo Brasil: New Franchise holders, new pageant

The association between Rede Band and the Miss Universe Organization has been extended. Enter, the network division in charge of organizing events, signed a contract with Donald Trump and NBC to give a new face to beauty pageants in Brazil.

The control of all 27 regional contestants and the election of the Miss Universe representative in Brazil has been awarded to Enter, new franchiseholders in the country. Enter will be in charge of everything, from the selection of the contestants to the transmission of the national event.

Frederico Nogueira, Vice President of Band responsible of the Enter division, explained “It means that we are creating a new beauty contest in Brazil, with the objective of improving the quality of the competitors. It has been 40 years since Brazil last won the Miss Universe pageant. We want to change that reality”, said the executive. In addidion to assuming the control of the Miss Universe regionals all over the country, Enter will also become a managing agency for models.

The results of this new strategy will be shown during Band’s programmin. In 2012, there are plans to broadcast at least 12 regional contest, in addition to the new “Miss Universo Brasil” and then the international Miss Universe contest.

Although there were preliminary talks that the 2012 pageant could come back to Brazil, nothing has been confirmed or denied by local businessmen.

Well in the past, the Miss Brazil pageant only had White Girls,, hopefully the new owners respect Black, and Mulata contestants and Japanese Brazilians as well.

I agree with that. I think the beautiful Deise Nunes was the last woman of color who was crowned Miss Brazil. And that was in 1986!! A country that has the most beautiful women of color only picks caucasians to represent their multi-ethnic society……..? The new owners have to modernize and drop the racist attitude. I wonder when they can leave behind their backward selection procedure. That’s why I love the fact that a beautiful black woman bagged the Miss Universe crown on Brazilian soil!! Wake up Brazil, you have to keep up with the real world……..

This racist attitude has nothing to do with brazilian society, but with the Miss Brazil franchise holders. This racist attitude by them was one of the things who made brazilian people stop following beauty pageants. Only few people pay attention to them in Brazil. And I don´t think dropping the racist attitude will bring Miss Brazil back to the glorious times. It´s a matter of mentallity, you know, we have a woman as the president, most brazilians think beauty pageants belong to the past.

Yes I agree with your statement. Notice how MOST pageant fans are usually from third-world or developing countries. Maybe pageants such as MU or MW is still a big deal to them. But for modern society in many developed countries such as the US or Europe as well as Brazil, they no longer care for any kinds of pageants. To them, pageants are stupid, old-fashioned, and like you said, a thing of the past. Especially since most pageants are still pretty racist/prejudiced and politics-based, it makes people lose their interest so I don’t blame them for not showing any interest in hosting a pageant.

    Get real , people.
It’s just business , once Brazil has been in excellent financial conditions. They will come to Brazil to make money.
    That’s their main purpose.
