Fast National ratings for Wednesday, December 19. 2012.
The two-hour performance finale of “The X Factor” got only a small bump over last week’s Wednesday show, but it still had no trouble beating NBC’s Miss Universe Pageant and leading the night in all measures.
Note that Miss Universe hit a four-year high in viewers and was up from last year among young viewers, though last year’s show aired in September and from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, The CW got decent numbers for the telefilm “Noel,” NBC’s “Chicago Fire” had a good night and the numbers were dismal for CBS’ annual “A How For The Holidays” special.
For the night, FOX averaged a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49, far ahead of the 1.8 rating for NBC and ABC’s 1.5 rating in the key demographic. CBS’ 1.1 key demo rating beat the 0.3 key demo rating for The CW.
Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 8.3 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/8 share for Wednesday primetime. NBC was second with a 4.1/7 and 6.27 million viewers, beating the 3.8/6 and 5.76 million viewers. ABC was fourth with 5.24 million viewers and a 3.5/6, with The CW averaging a 1.1/2 and 1.62 million viewers.
8 p.m. – “The X Factor” started primetime in first for FOX with 8.24 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49 in the 8 p.m. hour. NBC’s Miss Universe was second with 5.52 million viewers and a 1.6 key demo rating. CBS’ “A Home For The Holidays” was third with nearly 5 million viewers and fourth wit a 0.9 key demo rating, compared to the 4.75 million viewers and 1.2 key demo rating averaged by ABC’s repeats of “The Middle” and “The Neighbors.” The CW continued to get OK numbers with its holiday offerings, drawing nearly 1.7 million viewers and a 0.4 key demo rating for “Noel.”
9 p.m. – The second hour of “The X Factor” was up to 8.35 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49. Also rising was NBC’s Miss Universe, which averaged 6.73 million viewers and a 2.1 key demo rating in second. Again, CBS was third overall and fourth in the key demo with 6.455 million viewers and a 1.4 key demo rating for a repeat of “Criminal Minds.” ABC was fourth overall and third in the demo with a “Modern Family” repeat (5.75 million viewers and a 1.8 key demo) and “The Year with Katie Couric” (4.94 million viewers and a 1.4 key demo). On The CW, “Noel” averaged 1.54 million viewers and a 0.3 key demo rating.
10 p.m. – “Chicago Fire” spent a rare hour atop the heap with 6.56 million viewers and a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 for NBC. Miss France is 6th place, does anyone else know the placings of the remaining ladies?
Just to think, Miss Universe, arent hype much in US TV…what more, it ads are orgasmic..
Donald Trump knows how to do business. Have Miss USA win and his show gets higher ratings. Lets take a look at the top 5. Two girls from South America (Venezuela and Brazil), one from Asia (Philippines) and one from Australia. He wants to get more viewers around the world in each continent. Last year Brazil and Phillipines were also in the top 5. What a coincidence. Most of the girls that made the top 16 were from big /populated countries.
mu in winter i s good
Next year Miss Universe will be in December too, perhpas its Donald in santa Claus
1 hour before the telecast here in west coast, I already knew the winner. Most likely americans got curious to watch it, I hope they are happy with the results after watching it?
I think they show it LIVE in east coast, there’s a 3 hour diffirence to west coast.
congratulations for the high rating
Expect more Miss USA wins on the upcoming year!! The ratings gets high!
So other nation dont expect to get the crown? From the start it was alreadt rob
I’m sure millions of latinos living in the USA saw the Miss Universe pageant on Telemundo network.
Well what d’ya know?? MU crowns an American and all of a sudden the ratings soar high. Go figure LOL. Could it be that timing also plays an important role here, seeing that MU is moved from its original dates around April-May to December? But it still doesn’t change the fact that the majority of the Americans don’t really care about pageants in general and just like in Europe, they are slowly losing interest in it.
“MU crowns an American and all of a sudden the ratings soar high.”
Saying that the ratings went up because an American was crowned is pretty much saying that Americans are psychic. None of the viewers knew USA was going to win ahead of time…well except for the psychics.
I wasn’t implying that the Americans knew beforehand that the winner was going to be an American thus why they decide to watch the final telecast.
I was only pointing out at the coincidence where the ratings become high right at the moment where an American contestant won the whole ordeal.
Thats nit a smart thing to say because if the host country normal has high ratings within the country they are airing from. So please don’t make those rather unintelligent statements. I agree with you Jay.
Did you even read what I wrote down???? Or did you even UNDERSTAND what I was saying???
I said that I did NOT accuse the Americans to know/predict beforehand of the outcome of the pageant thus why they watched in the first place.
I only pointed out that it was a COINCIDENCE that the ratings become high right at the night where Miss USA wins.
So it’s not like I accuse the Americans/MUO/Donald Trump to interfere with the ratings, it’s rather just an expression of mine of saying, “oh what a coincidence! The ratings are high right at the time where Miss USA wins.” That’s it.
If you try to make a “connection” between my words with any so-called “accusations” that you have inside your head, then that’s your problem. Not mine.
Yes we were all as surprised as everyone else in the world that Ms USA won! SHE SHOULDN’T HAVE!!!!!! The judges robbed Ms Philippines of the crown – Ms Indonesia was in tears and hugged Ms Philippines. The other Latin American countries were also upset. This is a complete, utter travesty!
*sigh* Okay take a deep breath, chill out, relax, and move on, shall we?! Okay good thanks, see you next year.
