The Mausoleum is a cenotaph, where the coffin contains no corpse, but only headdresses and accessories, because the actual Tomb of Genghis Khan has never been discovered. It was built between 1954 and 1956 by the government of the China in the traditional Mongol style. It is one of the main tourist attractions in the region, visited by thousands of people every year.
