Chelsie Allison, who competed in Miss World earlier this year in India, won the title of Miss World. She will represent Scotland in the 72nd Miss World pageant. Stephanie Norrie was Scotland’s first independent candidate in 1999. Juliet-Jane Horne placed second in the 2001 Miss World competition held in South Africa, narrowly missing out on the title.

History of Miss Scotland

  • The Miss Universe pageant, often held in the summer, was where the winners of Miss Scotland competed from 1961 to 1990. The winners  from the regional contests would then participate in the Miss UK pageant and winner will then represent the UK in the Miss World pageant. Miss Universe in the 1990s did not include a Miss Scotland.
  • Following Scottish devolution in 1999, Miss Scotland was granted entry into the Miss World contest. Stephanie Norrie was the first Miss Scotland to compete in Miss World who was paired with Clare Daniels, Miss Wales, and Nicola Willoughby, the winner of the final Miss UK pageant of that year. In 2000, Miss England and Miss Northern Ireland participated in their first Miss World pageant. Since then, the Miss UK title has been earned by the candidate with the highest rating among the four UK contestants.
