About Miss World Beauty Pageant
Eric Morley designed the FBC in 1951 as a part of the Festival of Britain. A bikini contest was named “Miss World” by the media. Subsequently, Eric Morley filed for a trademark for the Miss World name. The Miss World pageant gained prominence in 1959 when it was first broadcast on television by the BBC. In late 1970’s Miss World was one of the most watched programs on UK television. Eric Morley started the Miss World Organization in 1951, and it is the owner of Miss World.
Since the pageant’s founding, the Morley family has maintained a strong relationship with its management. Julia Morley, Eric’s wife, became the organization’s head upon Eric’s death in 2000. Julia received recognized for her volunteer and charity work helping underprivileged people in the UK and throughout the world in June 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II named her a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
